Symantec defs not updating

I was having problems with email scanning and with liveupdate not getting todays update. Downloading catalog file (14 of 15), not available. Processing update list Opening update list Processing update list Downloading catalog file (8 of 15), complete.Even if there's not, surely the last update should still be within 10mins whether it downloaded anything or not! Whether it downloaded new defs each time, who knows, but the counter never got past 10 minutes. Mine said 6 hours ago, ran it manually, and there was an update waiting, status critical and installed.

EDIT: Just restarted and ran LU, got a "pulse definition update", and now counter is set back to zero.
i checked on norton and it said one of the reasons why update stops working is the wrong time and date, so i went through all the advice clicking apply and ok, highlighting the correct time year month etc, even using the windows timeupdate so it syncronised the same as the internet, but still no joy!
